Tetra IRL: A Moment with Tenoversix

Fri Dec 18, 2015

While it may be too late for pre-Christmas shipping, it's not too late to gift Tetra for the holidays: We've set up mini-shops in three brick-and-mortar stores in three different cities. Today, we're turning the focus to our L.A. host through January 3, Tenoversix—a vibrantly colorful fashion, design, and beauty boutique on Melrose (there's also a location in Dallas's Joule Hotel) that stocks a fresh mix of emerging labels. Owners Kristen Lee and Brady Cunningham are their own best advertisements; Cunningham describes their look and that of the store as "clean and simple with combinations of unexpected colors, textures and styles."

We caught up with the duo as they jetted around the country pre-holidays to talk style and design.

What's inspiring you lately?

Kristen: In terms of design, Bauhaus. If I'm going to watch something, it has to be funny. Right now, its all old seasons of Ab Fab. Lacroix! I'm eagerly awaiting more Broad City episodes. In terms of books, I get a little crazy. Right now, Gloria Steinem's new autobiography, Life on the Road, is really inspiring me, and I just finished Ice by Anna Kavan, haunting and chilling, the first book of my new book club.

Brady: I’ve been feeling very nostalgic and watching some of my favorite movies, like Thelma and Louise, An Unmarried Woman, Cruel Intentions, Contempt.... I also can't pass up a good vintage interior design book. Any of the Terence Conran books are favorites.

What are you listening to?

Kristen: Spoon, Tame Impala, Sylvan Esso; and now that it's cold, a lot of Nina Simone, Dinah Washington, Don Cherry, and Miles Davis.

Brady: Adele, The Durutti Column, Steve Gunn, Carly Rae Jepsen.

Which object and furniture designers are you loving right now?

Kristen: Charles & Ray Eames, Marcel Bruer, Jens Risom, Gretta Grossman; and today, Neri and Hu, Luca Nichetto, Ladies & Gentlemen, and Bec Brittain.

Brady: Fort Standard, Eric Trine, Iacoli & McAllister, Ladies & Gentlemen, Molly Finlay, Only Love is Real.

What's your go-to look this winter?

Kristen: Slubby tees, high-waisted Rachel Comey denim, and long dusters.

Brady: Oversized sweaters, jeans, Martiniano shoes.

What will you be wearing to holiday festivities?

Kristen: Tome's oversized silk taffeta karate pants and sparkly cropped sweaters.

Brady: My new Apiece Apart shirtdress and some comfy heels.
